(More customer reviews)Purchased this because so often I carry a number of small things that get easily lost in my bags and wanted a solution to keep them organized and transferable from bag to backpack.I have several bags and rather than pull stuff from one bag to go to another that has a different way of holding these commonly used small items, I thought this would make it easy to just pull this E.D.C. Organizer out with often used items and into another bag.
So I was pretty excited to come across this. From the photos and Maxpedition's website, it appears to be pretty robust as frankly all their goods look. But must say that when I received it my enthusiasm quickly fizzled out.It feels "CHEAP" likeone of those fanny pack you find at Walmart for $4.99.The zipper, even though say YKK is rough and difficult to pull smoothly. The zipper teeth look really poor. The outside fabric, which is suppose to be 1050 Ballastic Nylon is very, very thin and when held up to light you can see plenty of light coming through each gap of the stitching. The inside backside is not finished so all sewing seams are exposed and make you very conscious not to place anything that you have concerns about scratching in these pocket compartment. On their site, they state "water resistant" but I have a hard time believing that.It may pass in a light rain, but a heavy downpour, especially a second or third time out after the Teflon coating has worn away, I would not trust any electronic valuable like a GPS in there.
Now if this were $8 to $11 dollars this review would probably be favorable for the money spent. But at $27 dollars, this is just not a good value. You can actually purchase a decent backpack with a nice organizer pocket for that same money, that would be a far better value.
So what is good about this unit:the concept is one that definitely has a place in the market. The E.D.C. Pocket Organizer does have a variety of pockets and elastic bands to hold a number of things. There is also a smart handle that makes grabbing it and pulling out of a bag much easier. The zippers do have nice long nylon pulls. It also has loops on the backside so it can be attached to the outside of a bag or strap that has attachment options.
I am strongly considering returning it but hate the hassle to do so and the additional cost to ship back.I will say that this is my first purchase of a Maxpedition product and it has DEFINITELY changed my opinion of the brand. The look and 'attitude' of their gear made me think it was rough and ready, sort of "Desert Storm tough" but holding this less than acceptably built E.D.C. Organizer motivated me to write this review.
I do like Osprey Packs very much for hiking and excursion needs and if they made such a product as this E.D.C. Organizer I would have given them my business immediately because I trust the brand and have been exceedingly happy with their products.
I did also purchase a Sealline Backpack Organizer for $11 dollars here as well and that, though noticeably taller, is a better value for the same type of needs if you have the space for it.
But I can not recommend this Maxpedition E.D.C. Organizer for anything over $12 dollars.Quality is just not there.
